Learning Philosophy

ICG has emerged out of 35 years of Ben Kehoe's consulting experience. Having completed his early training in the human potential movement of the 60s & 70s, his work evolved into management of change and then strategic consulting in the SME sector. Key milestones in this journey include, participation in workshops with Malcolm Knowles (adult learning), Roger Harrison (self-directed learning), Edgar Shine (process consultation), Sherod Miller (couple communication).

This laid the foundation for a learning philosophy which is best encapsulated by Harrison Owen's "open-space" technology. In Open Space technology there are four principles and one law:

The Four Principles

  1. Who comes, is the right people
  2. Whatever happens, is the only thing that could have happened
  3. Whenever it starts, its the right time
  4. When its over, its over

The Law of Two-Feet

If at any time you find yourself in any situation where you are neither learning nor contributing: use your two feet and go someplace else.

The Emergence of Strategy

From this position, Ben identified the major challenge facing any business leader is how to move a group of people from point A to point B, with a modest degree of coherence and maximum degree of productivity.  He landed on group-based planning processes, as a technology which enabled business leaders to marshall their resources in the pursuit of a common dream.

It is on this platform, that all of Ben's work is based.
